UPAC-USAS SPRING MEETING APRIL 25-27, 1996 NEAR TORREY, UTAH

Its that time of year--time for the UPAC Spring meeting. Following last year's example, the meeting will be held outdoors near Torrey, Utah on April 26-27. The meeting/campsite location is a few miles from Torrey and Teasdale (Directions below & map attached).

Like last year's meeting, the meeting will be a joint UPAC-USAS gathering. Invitations have been mailed to all USAS chapter presidents to pass along to their chapter members; we ask UPAC members to encourage your local USAS members to attend the spring meeting.

A primitive camping area, portable toilets and water will be available. A rough agenda is as follows:

**Meal Costs** Costs for Friday evening dutch oven dinner and Saturday morning breakfast; $20/adult, $9/child (under 13), Please make reservations by sending your fee to Stan McDonald (741 Castle Gate Rd, Helper UT 84526) or notify him via phone (801/637-2817) by April 19.

Things to Bring: Please bring your own chairs, camp gear, water (though backup water will probably be available), food and cook/eating utensils for meals (other than non-catered meals) and your own liquid refreshments.

Business meeting agenda items; If you have agenda items, please give Stan McDonald a call (801/637-2817). Please provide a time estimate and whether the agenda issue is a discussion/action/voting item.

Any assistance in camp setup on Thursday (meeting tent, fire pit prep, firewood gathering etc) on Thursday will be willingly accepted. We believe last year's joint UPAC-USAS gathering in the San Rafael Swell was a resounding success. We hope to continue this tradition in this year in spectacular Capitol Reef country. So please encourage your local USAS chapter members to attend. We also ask you to contact former UPAC members and potential new members (e.g., students) and let them know about the spring meeting and encourage them to attend.

Bill Davis, UPAC President
Stan McDonald, UPAC Pres.-Elect

Meeting/Camp Directions. As the map shows, the camp is a few miles south of Torrey and east of Teasdale. You can get there one of three ways after entering Wayne County: from the west, from the east, and from the south. Each is described in the following paragraphs.
If corning from the west ( e.g., Richfield, SW Utah or Wasatch front) then you will travel along State Highway 24 through Loa, Lyman and Bicknell. Leave Highway 24 just north of Teasdale, taking the oiled county road south through Teasdale, then eastward toward Grover 800 State Highway 12. About 4.5 miles after leaving Highway 24 you will see a graded road on the left. There 'Will be brightly colored streams of flagging tape indicating this is the dirt road to tom onto. Take the dirt road left (north) and at about 1/4 mile you will be at another junction. Again take the left fork, which will be indicated with bright flagging tape. You will now be in the vicinity of the camp. Watch for more flagging tape or signs, or simply look for where the action seems to be centered.

If coming from the east ( e.g., up from Hanksville, through Capitol Reef National Park on State Highway 24); go west through Torrey to the junction of State Highway 24 and the paved (or oiled) country road takes off south through Teasdale. From here refer to the above directions to get to the camp.

Lastly, if you are coming from the south (e.g., Boulder over Boulder Mountain) you take State Highway 12 past Grover, then take the oiled county road east toward Teasdale. I estimate the dirt road to the camp is about 5 miles on the country road after leaving Highway 12. Again, watch for flagging tape streamers at a dirt road junction along your right side. From this point, please refer to the above directions to the camp.
