USAS-UPAC Joint Convention

UPAC and USAS will join forces this summer at the USAS-UPAC Joint Convention 2004. Planned activities include UPAC and USAS business meetings, workshops, site tours, an atlatl competition, a keynote speaker, and great food and entertainment.

Registration for the convention will be required to participate in activities other than the UPAC business meeting. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged and will cost about $15 a person ($20 after May 15). UPAC members are strongly encouraged to register for and attend the broader convention to help forge links with the USAS community.

Details are still being arranged. If you have ideas for the meeting or would like to volunteer your time please contact UPAC’s representative, Rachel Quist, at 801-522-3587 or rachel.quist@us.army.mil.

Registration materials will be mailed to all UPAC and USAS members at the end of April 2004. Or you may print and mail the online form with payment to the address at the bottom of the form. Pre-register before May 15, 2004.


Keynote Speaker

"The Mountaineer Site: Folsom Occupation of the Upper Gunnison Basin of Colorado"

MARK STIGER

Mark Stiger has been working in the Upper Gunnison Basin of Colorado for nearly 30 years. His focus of research has been on Archaic and Paleoindian camps, residential sites, and lithic scatter archaeology. Mark is a professor of Anthropology at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado and he received a PhD from the University of New Mexico. Mark has numerous articles in professional journals and he has recently published "Hunter-Gatherer Archaeology of the Colorado High Country" (University Press of Colorado).
